The Adobe Flash technology may survive, but outside its plug-in

Adobe just released Wallaby, an experimental technology to convert Flash files to HTML5. That means we will soon be able to convert those old websites built with Flash that no longer runs on iOS devices.

Even more intersting, open source projects, such as Jangaroo, allow us to convert complex ActionScript 3 files to a fully functional JavaScript and HTML5 format.

Get an HTML5 compatible browser like Google Chrome and check out this demo.

I think Adobe is already working to modify their software to adapt to the changing needs of the web. Now, will they be able to keep the online presence that their Flash movies had? Of course not.

The sinking of Tuvalu – Will we loose our .TV domain names?

Dot tv is the top level domain name for the islands of Tuvalu.

The Tuvalu Island is sinking

That is true, as we can read on thesinkingoftuvalu.com : « Tuvalu is one of the smallest and most remote countries on earth. Located in the Pacific Ocean, [...] the country is in danger of disappearing beneath the waves. »

Now the question is : Will we loose our .TV domain names?

I found no official answer. It is good to know that the domain extention is currently operated by a VeriSign company, negotiated with the Tuvalu government by a contract of 12 years that ends in 2012.

Overall, I think that the Web 2.0 investors will save these domains.

Se faire un blogue avec WordPress

Quelques jours seulement après le lancement de ce présent blogue, basé sur la plateforme WordPress, je donne mon impression générale sur ce logiciel en code source ouvert.

Premièrement, il s’agit de ce qui se fait le mieux dans le domaine, jusqu’à preuve du contraire. Toutefois je plains quelqu’un qui installe le logiciel sur son serveur et qui commence sans connaissances en programmation.

C’est que tous ces beaux thèmes et tous ces beaux plug-ins ne sont pas toujours fait pour bien fonctionner ensemble. Vous aurez parfois besoin de jouer dans le PHP ou le CSS pour faire les ajustements.

De plus, WordPress a été conçu d’une façon très minimaliste. Il manque plusieurs options dans l’interface d’administration, et pour cause on doit encore faire les modifications dans le code source pour personnaliser des choses essentielles.

On a d’ailleurs trop besoin de plug-ins pour tout. Par exemple, j’ai du installer un plug-in pour pouvoir remplacer l’image de profil par défaut à côté de mes commentaires.

Dernier point négatif, l’interface de gestion est excessivement lourde. L’afficher fait rusher un ordinateur portable dans la moyenne seulement pour éditer un post avec une photo.

En conclusion, malgré tout ça, WordPress demeure d’après moi la meilleure solution pour se lancer un blogue de niveau professionnel sans payer des milliers de dollars en développement.
